To ensure your jewellery lasts a lifetime, you need to treat it with love and care. We recommend removing your pieces when showering, before bed and when doing any strenuous activities such as exercising, manual labour and gardening as these (and similar) activities can scratch the surface of your jewellery and cause it to bend over time which may loosen the stones. In addition it is important to  avoid exposure to chemicals such as makeup, lotions, chlorine and chemical cleaning products as these may fade or affect the integrity of your piece over time.

STERLING SILVER

While sterling silver is a precious metal, it can eventually oxidise with time. This change in colour which will may result in your jewellery looking dull and grey (oxidisation) can be caused by the oils in your skin, oxygen, chemicals and perfumes. In order to keep your silver from oxidising, store your pieces in a cool dry place.

GOLD

All pieces are made using solid gold which won’t tarnish or fade away unlike plated jewellery which will eventually fade and discolour. Benjamin believes in creating jewellery that is made to last and in doing so uses ethically sourced gold. To keep your gold pieces bright and lustrous, store separately away from other precious metals.

GEMSTONES

While gemstones are hard, if treated incorrectly they can still chip, so be sure to remove your jewellery when partaking in an activity that may potentially cause damage.

Some gemstones like pearls and opals are much softer than faceted stones like sapphires, garnets, diamonds etc. This being the case it is essential that you remove anything with an opal or pearl when swimming (both salt and chlorinated water) or when around cleaning products and chemicals as these can break down the stone and loosen it in the setting which may eventually lead to it falling out.

CLEANING

Occasionally your jewellery will need to be cleaned. Things like grease, dirt and moisturisers can build up around jewellery and in turn will make diamonds and coloured gemstones look dull and may appear to even change the colour slightly! However, this can be quickly fixed by soaking for your jewellery in warm water with mild soap and scrubbing it gently with a soft toothbrush. This will bring your jewellery back to life and make it sparkle again.
